Unlike the original poster, my car's air conditioning system is vintage and very rudimentary. The car is a 1971 Mercedes Benz 280SE, and the A/C is basically an under-dash add-on. The heater is totally separate from the A/C. An Arduino and a thermistor gets you a fuzzy logic controller, then you can have it turn the knob or patch it right in if you're brave.
